Dr. Elvin Adams developed Best Weigh in 1974 while on the Staff of Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland. He wanted to design a weight management program that would be easy for a person to follow; without weighing or measuring foods or consulting calorie tables or complicated lists of foods.
The simple progress card and scoring system not only tracks the food you eat but several other behaviors that contribute to obesity. A score of 30 or more each day will result in substantial weight loss. Other diets have adopted a variety of point systems but the concept originated with Dr. Adams more than 50 years ago and has been proven to be an effective tool in documenting behaviors that lead to weight loss.
Adams is a graduate of Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California. He has a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a board certified specialist in internal medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine.
Before devoting full time to Best Weigh, Dr. Adams was the Medical Director of the Health Department for Tarrant County, Texas. He also had an office and hospital practice of internal medicine in Fort Worth, Texas.
