      SURGERY

Those who are extremely overweight and who have failed multiple weight loss attempts often turn to surgery as a solution to their problem. There are those for whom surgery is probably the best option for weight loss.

There are a variety of surgeries that result in weight loss. The simplest is a constricting band surgically placed around the stomach. This restricts the amount you can eat. More complicated surgeries attach your stomach to your small intestine and bypass much of the digestive system.

Surgery has the potential for complications and with some surgical methods, chronic nutritional deficiencies develop which requires periodic injections of minerals or vitamins.

With weight loss, whether by surgery or dietary management, results in the improvement of several diseases including: diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, high cholesterol and high triglycerides and coronary heart disease.
